Have a Chat with Nature in Dubai - Visit Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary Renowned for magnetizing migratory birds in huge numbers, Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary is a swamp reserve possessing a great number of birds, small mammals, crustaceans and fishes. The sanctuary is a representation of a community of relative backwoods in the middle of the metropolitan infrastructure and its twirling traffic in Dubai. Rasl Al Khor is one of the few urban protected regions of the world located at The Cape of the Creek in Dubai.

Great efforts have been taken by the Dubai Municipality in order to preserve and conserve the biodiversity of this ecosystem which is so vey delicate. There are three hides for the birds which have been built and the reserve has been fenced off from the public judiciously. The first step towards the progress of elaborated form of educational facilities for the visitors in the area protected is being taken by these hides efficiently. The facilities which have been sponsored by the National Bank of Dubai has been executed by Project Office of WWF UAE in collaboration with Dubai Municipality’s Environment Department.

The opening of Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary in 2007 has surely proved to be a boon for the present as well as budding nature lovers due to the limitation of opportunities to explore natural environment in this rapidly and technologically developing emirate.

Ras Al Khor is the only reserve in the fast moving city of Dubai where one can spot Greater Flamingoes and other shore birds along with waders as well. Around 15000 birds which include almost 1500 flamingoes can be spotted on a winter day. One can observe police around the clock around patrolling the area as a great precaution is taken by the Dubai Municipality to protect these birds.

Two of the hides are located at Oud Metha Road anf one beside the Ras Al Khor Road, manned peculiarly with their distinctive car parks and are easily accessible to small groups. However, group of more than 10 may require taking permission from the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality prior to the visit.
