The Dubai World Championship is a tournament for golf on the European Tour to be held for the first time. Beginning on 19 November 19, 2009 and going on till 22 November 19, 2009, the championship is being organized on the Earth course at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, UAE.
The event is the finale of The Race to Dubai which is the new season long contest which replaces The European Tour Order of Merit. It also takes in The Tour’s most dignified tournaments, the Major Championships and the World Golf Championships.
Merit Contenders and their Order
- Rory McIlroy is leading with 2,538,449 Euros ($3.78 million)
- Next is Britons Lee Westwood, third being German Martin Kaymer followed by Ross Fisher, the fourth; all can stop at top of the inaugural Race to reach Dubai money list on Sunday.
- The second youngest winner of the order of merit after Spain's Seve Ballesteros (20) will be McIlroy(19). This Northern Irishman has also achieved the honor of being the youngest player in the 58-man field.
- Westwood is the only previous achiever in 2000.
Ultimate Prize
The world’s best golfers will race for US$ 7.5 million which is the prize money on the greens of Earth. “Golden Mile of Golf” is its last four holes may probably choose the winner of this finale to the 2009 European Tour Season.
Bonus Pool
The top 15 leaders of the event will share another US$ 7.5 million bonus. The new top European contender will earn $1.5 million and an exemption from seven-year tour.
